Overview

Experience two of Tanzania's most spectacular wildlife destinations on this 4-day safari. Tarangire National Park is famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and tree-climbing pythons. The Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the world's largest inactive volcanic caldera and offers unparalleled game viewing with its permanent population of over 25,000 large animals, including the rare black rhino. This safari combines diverse landscapes and exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities.

Safari Itinerary

Elevation: 1400m to 1100m

Distance: 120.0 km

Hiking Time: 2-3 hours driving + game drive

Habitat: Savannah, Baobab woodlands, Riverine forest

Depart from Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Upon arrival, begin your game drive through this stunning park known for its massive baobab trees and high concentration of elephants. The Tarangire River attracts wildlife from the surrounding dry savannah, making it an excellent spot for game viewing. Look out for lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and over 550 bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the designated sites within the park. In the late afternoon, exit the park and drive to your lodge/camp near Lake Manyara for dinner and overnight.

Distance: 100.0 km

Hiking Time: 2-3 hours driving

Habitat: Highland forest, Crater rim

After breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. This small but diverse park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, large flocks of flamingos, and lush groundwater forests. After lunch, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending the crater rim. Upon arrival, check into your lodge/camp perched on the rim with breathtaking views of the crater below. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to relax and enjoy the panoramic views. Dinner and overnight at the crater rim.

Elevation: 2300m to 1700m

Distance: 40.0 km

Hiking Time: 6-7 hours game drive

Habitat: Crater floor - Grasslands, Lakes, Swamps, Forest

Wake up early for breakfast, then descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a full day of game viewing. This natural amphitheater is home to approximately 25,000 large animals including the endangered black rhino, prides of lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, and wildebeests. The crater floor features diverse habitats including grasslands, swamps, lakes, and acacia forest. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool while watching these massive creatures. In the late afternoon, ascend back to the crater rim for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Habitat: Highlands, Cultivated areas

Enjoy breakfast with stunning views of the crater. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Arusha. En route, visit a Maasai village (optional) to learn about their traditional culture and way of life. Arrive in Arusha in the early afternoon where you'll be transferred to your hotel or to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
