Explore one of the largest faunal reserves in the world - Selous Game Reserve, now renamed Nyerere National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is larger than Switzerland and remains one of the most untouched wilderness areas in Africa. The Rufiji River, Tanzania's largest river, creates a stunning landscape of lakes, channels, and wetlands. Selous is famous for its large populations of elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and wild dogs. Experience game drives, boat safaris, and walking safaris in this pristine wilderness.

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours drive + boat transfer
Habitat: Savannah, Riverine forest
Depart from Dar es Salaam early morning and drive southwest to Selous Game Reserve (approximately 4-5 hours). Arrive at the reserve entrance, then take a boat transfer across the Rufiji River to your lodge/camp. After lunch and check-in, enjoy an afternoon boat safari on the Rufiji River. This unique perspective allows close encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. Watch elephants and buffaloes coming to the river to drink as the sun sets. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Habitat: Miombo woodlands, Grasslands, Wetlands
Full day of exploration in Selous. After breakfast, set out with your guide for a game drive through different habitats of the reserve. Selous is known for its large elephant population - you may see herds of over 100 individuals. Look out for African wild dogs, one of the reserve's specialty species, as well as lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the reserve. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After breakfast, enjoy a final game drive as you exit the reserve. Cross the Rufiji River by boat and begin your journey back to Dar es Salaam. Arrive in Dar es Salaam in the afternoon. You'll be transferred to your hotel or to Julius Nyerere International Airport for your departure flight.

Today experience Selous from different perspectives. Early morning, embark on a walking safari with an armed ranger. In the late afternoon, enjoy another boat safari on the Rufiji River, exploring different channels and lakes. The birdlife is spectacular with kingfishers, fish eagles, storks, and many others.
