Day Trip Itinerary
Continue afternoon game drive, visiting different areas of the crater. Look for lions resting in the afternoon sun, elephants in the forest, and flamingos at the lake. Ascend from the crater late afternoon and return to Arusha by 7:00 PM.
Descend the steep crater walls via a 4x4 vehicle. Watch the landscape transform as you enter this unique ecosystem. Begin morning game drive, looking for predators who are most active in the cool morning hours.
Very early departure from Arusha (5:00 AM) to maximize time in the crater. Drive through the Great Rift Valley escarpment with beautiful sunrise views. Stop at the crater viewpoint for spectacular photos.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site near the hippo pool. Watch hippos wallowing and listen to their grunts. Be cautious of opportunistic birds who may try to share your meal!
Explore different habitats within the crater: grasslands, acacia woodlands, swamps, and Lake Magadi. Search for the Big Five, with special focus on finding the rare black rhino. Watch large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo.
